Mets v. Padres Recap
June 9th 2008 14:36
It just so happens that my first blog on metsmaniac comes after quite the disastrous series at San Diego, where the Padres laid a hefty beating on the Mets with a 4-game sweep.
The Mets put up a serious fight in all four games of this series, and it looks to be that they are on track, despite now being 6.5 games behind the first place Phillies, and having lost 5 of 7 on a road trip that seemed to be in place to right the ship. Instead of turning back to New York headed for a run at first place, the Mets find themselves back below .500 and in dire need of another winning streak.
Instead of recapping each game of the series, as I will do in the future, I will simply finish off by stating to all Mets fans out there, pick up your heads and have faith in this team. If not for the rediculous dimensions of the Padres ballpark, plus numerous bad breaks throughout the weekend, these games would have ended with a postive aura in the air, and a feeling of confidence from the fans of heading for a division title.
I am not writing from the mouth of an ignorant mets fan, but one with a renewed confidence in this team. Although the final scores do not agree with my positive line of thinking, there was plenty of quality pitching, especially from the bullpen, thoughout this series, and the bats are sure to follow. Willie managed these games poroperly and with efficiency, but could not get support from the lineup.
There is too much talent on this team to simply put up 1 run every game. Let's just hope that the Mets can prove this against the division-leading Diamondbacks in this next series.
I'll be sure to have a more detailed follow-up of the NY-Arizona series following the next three days.
Keep your heads up, and LETS GO METS!
