My blog has taken over this domain. Therefore, this will be the new location for "New York Metropolitans."

Au Revoir Frenchy

September 1st 2010 03:22
Jeff Francoeur was traded tonight to the Texas Rangers for infielder Joaquin Arias. In order for Frenchy to be eligible for the postseason roster, the deal had to be done by tonight.

Francoeur joined the Mets half way through the season last year and played well for the Mets hitting .311 with 10 homers. Unfortunately, he did not carry his hot end of the season into the beginning of this season. In 124 games this year he is hitting .237 with 11 homers and 54 RBIs. He lost his everyday job upon Beltran's return from knee surgery, however after Bay went down with a concussion he started to play much more again.

Arias is hitting .276 in 50 games with the Rangers this year.

Frenchy certainly looks as if he will see the postseason this year as the Rangers are 8.5 games up in the AL West, whereas the Mets are 11 back in the NL East.

Francoeur was a rollercoaster ride in a little more than a year with the Mets. He showcased a gun in right field and had some hot streaks at the plate, such as late last season. But Frenchy was mediocre at best this year and with him being due arbitration this year the Mets were most likely going to non-tender him this winter, which would make him a free agent.

The Mets clearly have thrown in the towel on this season. With interest in Francoeur, I assume the Mets were happy just to get something in return for him. He will go to a team with much promise going into September.
