Reyes Out for Third Straight Game
August 30th 2010 05:25
Jose Reyes sat out his third straight game this afternoon as the Mets went on to defeat the Astros 5 to 1.
Reyes re aggravated his right oblique strain that he suffered in San Juan back on June 29, where he missed time in early July. Jose visibly looked as if something was wrong after his at bat in the second inning on Thursday. He was taken out of the game by Jerry Manuel and has missed the whole weekend series against Houston.
Jerry said before the game today that he took some swings in the cage, but was not ready to return to the lineup.
There is no timetable for Reyes to return to the lineup.
"I don't know," Reyes said.
As of right now, the Mets are waiting to get the "go" from Jose to insert him back into the lineup. “If I feel like I can play,” Reyes said, “then, yeah, I’m gonna play.”
With the Mets in fourth place in the NL East and eight games back of the Wild Card leading Phillies, there is no rush for Jose to return. However, it would be comforting to see Reyes get back on the field on a more consistent basis. Since 2009, Reyes has seen a lot of time on the DL. On May 26, 2009 Reyes suffered a calf injury which turned into a tear during his rehab. He was expected back in early September before suffering another setback, tearing his hamstring during rehab in August. He finished the season only playing in 36 games.
Reyes has also been hampered by injuries this year. He started the year on the 15-day DL due to a hyperactive thyroid gland. He then pulled his right oblique which sidelined him tens games before reinjuring the oblique Thursday.
